Investigation over truck crash near White House
On Monday night, a truck driver was apprehended after crashing into security barriers near the White House. A spokesperson from the Secret Service confirmed that no injuries were reported. It was determined that the truck posed no immediate threat, and preliminary investigations indicated the possibility of an intentional act.
As a precautionary measure, certain local roads and pedestrian areas were temporarily closed. WUSA, a Washington DC-based television station affiliated with CBS, quoted a witness who claimed that the driver collided with the barriers for a second time after the initial impact.
The incident occurred shortly before 22:00 (02:00 GMT) and prompted the evacuation of nearby hotels, including the Hay Adams.
The identity of the U-Haul removal truck has not yet been revealed.
