Inter Milan are in talks with Milan Skriniar over a new contract, with the defender’s current deal expiring at the end of the season, confirms sporting director Piero Ausilio.
The 27-year-old has regularly been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent years and a switch looks as likely as ever with his contract close to entering its final six months.
He has been a key figure at Inter Milan since joining from Sampdoria in 2017, racking up well over 200 appearanecs and winning both Serie A and the Coppa Italia and his club do not want to see him go.
Tottenham have been linked with a move for the Slovakia international, as have Newcastle, but Inter are hopeful that he will sign a new deal and stay in Milan.
‘We’re always optimistic, for anyone who does this job we have to be,’ Ausilio said, via TuttoMercatoWeb.
‘We’re in negotiations, talking, we’ve made him an important offer. We have to allow the appropriate time for the player and his representatives to make their reflections.
‘What I can assure is that Skriniar is an absolute professional and shows it every day in training. He’s highly motivated, focused on Inter, then as far as his contract extension is concerned, there are people working on it.’
Arsenal and Liverpool have also been reported as possible destinations for Skriniar if he pursues a move to England, but it may come down to which club is willing to pay a fee for him in January rather than wait to sign him on a free in the summer.
