The investigation conducted by the Carabinieri Investigative Unit and the prosecutor’s office in Catania has uncovered a pact between some administrators of the Municipality of Tremestieri Etneo and individuals linked to the Santapaola Ercolano mafia clan for the election of the current mayor Santi Rando in 2015.

According to the findings, the mafia elements provided support to Rando’s campaign in exchange for favors and influence once he was elected. This revelation has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about the extent of mafia infiltration in local government.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to uncover the full extent of the collusion between the mafia and local officials. Residents are calling for transparency and accountability in light of these disturbing revelations.

Mayor Rando has denied any involvement in the alleged pact and has pledged to cooperate fully with the investigation. The Municipality of Tremestieri Etneo is facing a crisis of confidence as residents demand answers and action to root out corruption and mafia influence in local politics.
