Lewis Capaldi was the star of the show at a Peloton class in London last week (Picture:
I went to a swear-filled exercise class with Lewis Capaldi, and it was A Time.
I’m fully aware of what a bizarre sentence that is – I went to an exercise class with chart-topper and international star Lewis Capaldi, what?! – so just bear with me here.
The Someone You Loved star is currently celebrating the release of his new album Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, and potentially in part to get all those pre-release jitters out of the way, descended on the Peloton studios in London for a workout.
Lewis is a Peloton enthusiast, having one of the indoor bikes at his home – which he brings on tour with him to cycle at his leisure between sold-out shows across the world.
And last week the musician was the star of the show as a class worked out to some of his top songs, as well as a high-energy playlist, at the studios in Covent Garden.
I myself am far from a fitness fanatic so was more than a little nervous about taking part in the high-intensity workout metres away from one of the biggest stars in the world, but Lewis – after walking in to applause from fans also taking part – instantly put everyone at ease.
The star was in conversation with instructor Ben even as he was put through his paces on the bike
Lewis is celebrating the release of his second album and worked up a sweat to soothe the pre-release jitters
‘Come on you worms!’ he roared playfully at the cameras and at us, throwing the C-word around like there was no tomorrow.
Class leader, Peloton Instructor Ben Alldis seriously put us through our paces in the 30-minute class, to the point where it became difficult to catch my breath – but more from laughing at Lewis’ outbursts than anything else.
Despite the non-stop cycling – often ‘uphill’ – Lewis was able to continue chatting to leader Ben, about his new album, documentary and his parents not being a fan of Someone You Loved.
The Bruises singer took the time to pose for photos at the end of class
At the same time, he spewed constant swears and insults, including sharing some choice Scottish swears with the uninitiated, and giving motivational quotes (some slightly less motivational than others.)
Fans of Lewis will be happy to know the star is as quick-witted and naturally funny in real life as he is on Twitter, on stage and in his documentary, and he easily drew laughter from the room even as we were red-faced and sweating – such a good look, but one Lewis joined us in.
After the class was over, and we got off the high-tech bikes with wobbly legs, Lewis disappeared quickly – but returned soon after for a group photo.

It turned out the singer had made a quick exit to nip into the shower after the 30 minutes of non-stop moving, and happily posed for photos with the group after the workout.
Not the most flattering of snaps for the rest of us, who remained red-faced, but it’s a picture with Lewis bloody Capaldi, so who cares?
