The Guardian has described Jeremy Hunt’s decision to scrap the prime minister’s economic plans as “one of the most astonishing U-turns in modern political history.”

His changes include slashing the energy price freeze that the PM had championed repeatedly. Sources told the paper the PM met with Sir Graham Brady on Monday where they discussed the scale of MPs’ anger.
