Hundreds of holidaymakers back in UK after Rhodes wildfires
British holidaymakers have started arriving back in the UK on repatriation flights after wildfires broke out on the Greek island of Rhodes – forcing many to flee on foot.
Up to 10,000 Brits are believed to be staying on the island, with flights back to the UK continuing throughout the week.
EasyJet and Tui have cancelled outbound package holidays to Rhodes until Saturday and Friday respectively.
Tourists have slept outside and in airports as the fires engulfed hotels and resorts on the eastern coast.
Local homes and businesses have also been impacted, some completely destroyed.
Airlines have been sending flights to bring holidaymakers back to the UK over the last few days as tourists have had no choice but to evacuate and sleep where ever they can find a safe space such as schools and airports.
