WhatsApp has announced a number of changes to its messaging service in recent months, from the ability to lock and hide chats to the option to use the app on multiple devices.
However, the newest change is one that has been requested for a while – the ability to edit messages.
If you accidentally sent a message to the wrong person, or make an embarrassing typo, you will now be able to change your messages – but only within 15 minutes of sending.
So how do you edit your Whatsapp messages? Here’s a step-by-step guide.
How to edit a WhatsApp message
All you need to do is follow these simple steps:
First, hold down the chosen WhatsApp message.
You will then be shown a drop down bar with lots of options, click the one that says ‘edit’.
You can now edit your message – but remember, you can only do this up to 15 minutes after you have sent the message.
4. Once the message has been edited it will say ‘edited’ next to it, so the recipient will know that you have made changes to the message.

As with all personal messages, media and calls, your messages and edits are protected by end-to-end encryption.
WhatsApp has said that this feature has started to be rolled out to users across the world, and should become available to everyone over the next few weeks.
Announcing the new feature on Monday, Mark Zuckerberg said: ‘From correcting a simple misspelling to adding extra context to a message, we’re excited to bring you more control over your chats.’
