Harry and Meghan has caused controversy since it dropped on Netflix (Picture: Netflix)
Meghan Markle has been the centre of much attention since she first started dating Prince Harry, but this has only intensified ahead of the release of Netflix’s documentary series Harry And Meghan.
The first three episodes of the programme dropped on the streaming platform last week and bagged over 2.4m viewers on its first day of release – more than tuned in to season 5 of The Crown on the day it dropped.
However, it has also sparked controversy over the claim that the Palace was offered an opportunity to provide comment, with other members of the royal family reportedly not contacted, despite a disclaimer that appeared on screen.
As the remaining three instalments are unleashed, complete with even more revelations about Meghan’s life as part of the Royal Family, let’s instead take a look back at the former Suits star’s life before Harry.
Who was she married to before?
Who was Meghan Markle married to before Prince Harry?
Meghan Markle has been married once before Harry, and her first husband was a producer named Trevor Engelson.
Engelson was born in New York and is 44, five years Markle’s senior.
In 2006, the pair met and dated for six years before getting engaged in 2010. They were married in 2011 in Jamaica.
The marriage only lasted two years.

Engelson has since moved on with second wife Tracey, whom he married in 2019.
The pair announced last year that they were due to become parents, expecting a baby girl.
He confirmed the news on social media, saying: He wrote on the post: ‘Future mother of the year and girl dad way outta his league! Best thing I’ve ever produced hands down.’
