A Holocaust survivor has called out Whoopi Goldberg for doubling down on her controversial claims that the mass genocide ‘wasn’t about race’.
The Sister Act actress, 67, was suspended from The View earlier this year when she suggested that the Holocaust was instead about ‘man’s inhumanity to man’.
‘These are two white groups of people,’ she said.
‘The minute you turn it into race it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is. It’s how people treat each other. It doesn’t matter if you’re Black or white, Jews, it’s each other.’
In her latest interview with The Sunday Times, Goldberg further explained her points and said that the Nazi-orchestrated genocide was ‘white on white; violence, and not about race.
‘The oppressor is telling you what you are. Why are you believing them? They’re Nazis. Why believe what they’re saying.’

Goldberg’s recent claims have been met with backlash, with Holocaust survivor Lucy Lipiner branding her a ‘comedy has-been.’
She tweeted: ‘Whoopi Goldberg continues to use the Holocaust as her punching bag.
‘We told her that her comments harm us and she simply doesn’t care. I survived the Nazis and the Holocaust, so I’ll be damned if I let a comedy has-been, peddling a fake Jewish name get the better of me.’
Following heavy criticism, Goldberg released a statement addressing her inaccurate statement, stating: ‘I should have said it is about both. As Jonathan Greenblatt from the Anti-Defamation League shared, “The Holocaust was about the Nazi’s systematic annihilation of the Jewish people – who they deemed to be an inferior race”. I stand corrected.’

When her suspension from The View was announced by ABC News President Kim Godwin, she said in a statement: ‘Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments.’
Kim added that while Whoopi had apologised at the time, she had asked the co-host to ‘take time and reflect and learn about the impact of her comments’, adding: ‘The entire ABC News organisation stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family, and communities.’
