Tom Cunningham (Ellis Hollins) was left heartbroken in Hollyoaks as Yazz Maalik (Haiesha Mistry) made a big decision following their baby tragedy earlier this week.

Yazz, as viewers know, discovered she was pregnant last month. Tom was delighted at the prospect of becoming a dad again, while Yazz was unsure if she wanted the baby, with a heart-to-heart with Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell) leading her to tell Tom that she didn’t want to be a mum just yet.

Heartbreak ensued, however, with Yazz collapsing in her husband’s arms before being rushed to emergency surgery, with doctors subsequently revealing that the pregnancy was ectopic.

But there was more sad news for the couple, with the surgeon confirming that a damaged fallopian tube and ovary were removed during the operation, with an ultrasound confirming that, due to the ‘abnormally small’ size of her other ovary, it’s unlikely that Yazz will be able to conceive naturally.

Yazz was devastated by the news, as was Tom, and she’s since returned home to recuperate following her surgery, attempting to process the news all the while grieving the loss of her baby, with Tom struggling to get his head around everything.

In typical Tom fashion, he’s been determined to support Yazz, assuring her that she can still be a mum one day, with adoption being a possibility.

Wednesday’s (June 14) first look offering of the Channel 4 soap saw Tom reach out to an adoption agency to book a consultation, but he deleted the subsequent reply after Yazz made her decision on the matter.

‘I wasn’t keen on having kids in the first place,’ explained Yazz. ‘I don’t think I could adopt somebody else’s baby’.

Tom masked his pain and heartbreak as he deleted the email, kissing his beloved Yazz as he headed off to get her some biscuits for her tea.

Will the couple be able to work through this together? Can Tom support Yazz when she needs him the most? Or will his desire to be a dad again lead to more conflict?
