Holly Willoughby had to talk to Ruth Langsford during This Morning just hours after being branded a ‘big mouth’ by Eamonn Holmes.

The 42-year-old presenter – who addressed Phillip Schofield’s exit and affair as she returned to the ITV show’s sofa on Monday morning alongside Josie Gibson – was appearing on air after Ruth’s husband Eamonn blasted her earlier in the day on GB News.

He has been one of Schofield’s loudest critics, and he launched into another blistering attack against both Schofield and former co-star Holly before her TV return.

He said: ‘You think she’s got a big mouth? She won’t be using it today.’

Later in the morning, Holly was forced to share the screen with his wife Ruth as they did the usual link previewing what’s the come from today’s Loose Women.

‘It is time now to find out what Loose Women are talking about today, hi there Ruth,’ she began with a smile on her face at the end of an interview with singer Adam Lambert.

Ruth replied: ‘Hiya, we love Adam Lambert too! Mwah, mwah, mwah to him! Coming up on Loose Women, we’ll be exposing the big social media exam scam that could be affecting your children or your grandchildren. Also, here’s a question – is it ever okay to take off your wedding ring during a row?

She also introduced guests Anton Du Beke and Leona Lewis, adding: ‘Great guests, great show – as always! See you at 12.30!’

Holly responded: ‘We’ll see you then, thank you very much!’

Also on GB News earlier in the day, Eamonn urged ‘anyone watching today who has kissed Phillip Schofield, let us know’.

Holly Willoughby’s statement in full as she returns to This Morning after Phillip Schofield exit

‘Hi there, good morning. Josie, thank you for being here. Right, deep breath. Firstly, are you ok? I hope so. It feels very strange indeed sitting here without Phil.

‘I imagine that you might have been feeling a lot like I have – shaken, troubled, let down, worried for the wellbeing of people on all sides of what’s been going on and full of questions.

‘You me and all of us at This Morning gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth, who acted in a way that they themselves felt that they had to resign from ITV and step down from a career that they loved. That is a lot to process, and it’s equally hard to see the toll that it’s taken on their own mental health.

‘I think what unites us all now is a desire to heal, for the health and wellbeing of everyone.

‘I hope that we start this new chapter and get back to a place of warmth and magic that this show holds for all of us, we can find strength in each other.

‘From my heart, can I just say thank you for all of your kind messages and thank you for being here this morning. Myself, Josie, Dermot, Alison, Craig and every single person that works on this show will continue to work hard every single day to bring you this show that we love.’

‘He said in his 40-odd years of broadcasting that he’s made one mistake, he had one kiss that he shouldn’t have had,’ he said. ‘I put it to anyone watching today that if you have kissed Phillip Schofield let us know. Let us see if that figure of one grows to the figure that I believe it is probably at.’

He added: ‘We’re not supposed to criticise him in case he harms himself but he still thinks he can go on and say lies, lies, lies. He’s admitted he is a liar.

‘You should see the emails, the texts and the messages I’ve been sent over the past week. I think he’s getting off very very lucky. Like everybody else he lied to me, I was happy to stand by him until I found out that he was lying… This isn’t about him being gay, not in the slightest.’

Holly didn’t acknowledge Eamonn’s comments at any point, but appeared tearful as she appeared on This Morning for the first time since her former co-host’s exit.

She said she was ‘shaken, troubled and let down’ by Schofield before hugging her co-host Josie and thanking everyone for their support.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1.
