Morocco are potentially just 90 minutes away from reaching the World Cup final when they take on France this evening.
The underdogs have had a dream run at this year’s World Cup, first of all topping a group which included Croatia and Belgium.
Walid Regragui’s men then overcame Spain on penalties in the round of 16, before edging past Portugal in the quarter-final.
They have only conceded one goal in the tournament so far – against Canada in the group stage – and their performances so far in the Middle East have convinced fans they have what it takes to go all the way this year.
But have Morocco ever won the World Cup before?
Read on to find out.

In fact, their quarter-final victory over Portugal was also the first time they have featured in the last eight of the World Cup.
Before this year, their previous best result in the tournament was the round of 16 stage in Mexico back in 1986.
Their first ever appearance in the World Cup came in 1970, but their campaign only lasted three games as they were dumped out in the group stage.
They were also knocked out in the group stages of the World Cup in 1994, 1998 and 2018.
Morocco appearances at the FIFA World Cup
Mexico 1986 – round of 16
USA 1994 – group stage
France 1998 – group stage
Russia 2018 – group stage
Has an African country ever won the World Cup?
Unfortunately for the continent, an African team has not yet won the World Cup.
Morocco themselves are the first African side to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.
Ghana were one kick away from reaching the semi-finals of South Africa 2010, after Uruguay’s Luis Suarez handled the ball on the line to give the Black Stars a penalty in the final minutes of extra time.

Asamoah Gyan missed the resultant penalty and the game headed to penalties, which saw Uruguay progress at the expense of the West Africans.
Senegal also reached the quarter-finals in 2002 after beating Sweden in the round of 16, but they could not repeat their heroics in the last eight and were beaten 1-0 by Turkey after extra time.
Cameroon are the only other African nation to reach the quarters, losing to England at Italia 90.
