Tributes have come in for rapper Big Scarr, who died aged 22, according to reports.
While police haven’t confirmed the death of the Memphis performer, Gucci Mane – whose record label, New 1017 Records, Big Scarr was signed to – paid tribute to his colleague, born Alexander Woods.
Alongside a carousel of images of the rapper, Gucci wrote: ‘This hurt [crying emoji] I’m a miss you @bigscarr [broken heart emoji].’
A cause of death has not yet been publicly revealed.
His manager also shared a post to her Instagram that asked people ‘do not call me’ around the time the news emerged, while label mate Enchanting wrote on Instagram: ‘Ion wanna talk. Sorry if I don’t answer. I just can’t,’ with a broken heart emoji.
The performer added alongside a video of the rapper: ‘I’d do anything to hug you one more time.’
Woods made his commercial debut in 2020 with SoIcyBoyz, appearing on The New 1017 compilation album Gucci Mane Presents: So Icy Summer in July 2020 alongside labelmates Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano, as well as solo Make A Play.

He released his debut mixtape Big Grim Reaper last year, which featured appearances by Gucci, Pooh Shiesty, Foogiano and producer Tay Keith.
It peaked at No. 25 on Billboard’s Hot 200 album chart and reached the top spot on Rolling Stone’s Breakthrough 25 Chart.
One of his final posts on social media shared he was set to go on tour with fellow Memphis rapper Key Glock as part of his Glockoma Tour 2023.
Rolling Loud festival, which Woods hit the stage at in September in New York and was due to perform at in California in March 2023, also paid tribute to the rapper, sharing on its socials: ‘RIP Big Scarr [prayer emoji].’
Woods grew up in the Magnolia neighborhood of South Memphis and lived with his grandmother until the age of 13 – after she passed from lung cancer, he moved in with his father.
At 16 he was involved in a car wreck, writing on his official website he went flying through the windshield but ‘walked away with scars on his eyes, nose, and the whole side of his face, inspiring his chosen name’.
In 2020 the rapper was involved in a near-fatal shooting and was shot in the hip, with the bullet travelling up into his chest.
He said of the shooting: ‘I was moving, so the bullet kept moving too. The doctors had to split me down the middle to save me. My insides got messed up, and they had to remove my appendix, so I could walk again. I recovered and bounced back way quicker than I thought though.’
Metro.co.uk contacted Memphis police and Gucci’s reps for comment.
