Great British Bake Off contestants and viewers at home were left a little puzzled by this week’s technical challenge.
During Tuesday’s nail-biting semi-final, the pressure was on to deliver with a place in next week’s grand finale at stake.
In the latest technical, co-judge Prue Leith assigned the bakers to create four identical chocolate hazelnut and raspberry vertical tarts – whatever that meant!
‘I have no idea what it’s supposed to look like,’ said Sandro.
‘This is beyond me,’ Abdul added.
After her co-judge Paul Hollywood asked Prue ‘what she was thinking’ in terms of the challenge, she later explained that the semi-final is the perfect time for the bakers to ‘push themselves.’

Explaining the true meaning of a vertical tart, she said: ‘It’s a really delicate pastry. It’s a shortcrust but it has ground almonds in it, so it’s really tender.
‘The chocolate mousse actually has whisked meringue in it to make it a bit moussey, and then when it’s set decorate it with jelly, with whipped cream, raspberries and tempered chocolate discs.
‘And a green leaf.’
Sounds easy enough!
The bakers weren’t the only ones drawing a blank as viewers also shared their thoughts on social media.
‘So everyone else just googled ‘vertical tarts’, right? And found one random blog post and no other reference?’ one person tweeted.
‘Vertical tarts? They’re making it up as they go along now, aren’t they?’ another quipped.
‘Idk if anyone watches #GBBO but watching sandro go through it with the vertical tarts is making me stressed,’ remarked another.
Elsewhere during tonight’s show, the final three were announced, after Sandro Syabira and Abdul sailed through, but for Janusz it was the end of the road.
Speaking about his exit, Janusz said: ‘I am not upset, the best three bakers are left clearly.
‘It was the most amazing time with the most amazing people.’
Devastated fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment, with one writing: ‘Janusz might not be upset, but I am! Will miss his beautiful presence.’

‘So sad about this,’ another added.
‘Said Janusz was a finalist in episode one. He did himself proud & have loved watching his bake off journey over these past couple of months.’
