Good Morning Britain has come under fire from viewers after filming live from a hospital in Merseyside on Monday morning.

Presenters Kate Garraway and Richard Madeley hosted the ITV daytime programme from Whiston Hospital where they sat in the outpatient reception and interviewed an array of guests.

The hosts explained that the show had been invited to broadcast from inside the location to hear from patients receiving treatment and from NHS staff on the frontline.

‘We have unprecedented access just to see what is really happening,’ Madeley said.

‘It’s been fascinating being here,’ Garraway told viewers. ‘It’s a really impressive hospital, extraordinary staff, but my goodness are they under pressure.’

‘It’s facing all sorts of challenges,’ she added.

While Garraway insisted that the show wasn’t ‘getting in the way’ of the day-to-day running of the centre and that they are ‘respecting people’s privacy’ by only recording people who want to ‘want to be featured’, many audiences at home felt ‘uncomfortable’ by the scenes.

‘What kind of nonsense is this today?’ asked one. ‘Live from a hospital reception that appears to be closed ffs only staff floating around. I bet they’re delighted you’re all taking up space there.’

Another quizzed: ‘Is it really necessary to block up the reception of a working hospital to have a “discussion.” We all know what a hospital looks like.’

‘Turned #GMB on, who thought it was appropriate to broadcast in a hospital?’ a third demanded.

Other viewers criticised the quality of the programme as they complained about sound issues.

‘Whose idea was this? Putting the presenters right in front of the reception area of a hospital. The sound quality is appalling.’

‘The camera work and sound issues on #gmb this morning suggest that today’s show is a task on the next series of The Apprentice,’ another joked.
