James Corden’s restaurant drama was brought back to the spotlight by our favourite TV sofa critics during Friday’s episode of Gogglebox.
It all began last month when New York restaurateur Keith McNally accused the Gavin & Stacey actor of being rude to staff members over a wrong food order at NYC eatery Balthazar.
McNally claimed James was ‘abusive’ towards his staff and demanded two rounds of free drinks to make up for the mix-up. The businessman also cited another incident where James was alleged to have become angry after Julia’s omelette came to the table with egg white despite her stating she was allergic.
James issued a private and public apology to McNally, insisting that he didn’t realise he was being rude in the moment.
Addressing the scandal, the actor said on the Late Late Show: ‘Because I didn’t shout or scream, I didn’t get up out of my seat, I didn’t call anyone names or use derogatory language, I’ve been walking around thinking that I haven’t done anything wrong.
The comedian has since apologised (Picture: SplashNews.com)
‘But the truth is I have made a rude, rude comment. And it was wrong. It was an unnecessary comment, it was ungracious to the server.’
But, despite his apology, the controversy hasn’t been forgotten.
The Gogglebox stars had been watching an episode of Corden’s new show Mammals, in which he plays a Michelin-star chef Jamie who discovers a secret about his pregnant wife Amandine (Melia Kreiling).

During the episode, Jamie was trying to get to the bottom of his suspicions that his wife had been cheating on him with her new violin teacher Dan.
At one point, Dan (Samuel Anderson) is chatting to Jamie about ‘Ammy’, and just the mention of a nickname for his wife tips Jamie over the edge, as he lunges for Dan and is about to punch him.
Dan replies: ‘Are you going to punch me?’
Shaun couldn’t resist a cheeky dig (Picture: Channel 4)
Watching the scene, Shaun Malone, who sits on the sofa with his mum Julie and dad Tom, quipped: ‘That’s what James Corden does to waiters if they give him the wrong order.’
