Rian Johnson has announced his annoyance that his new movie Glass Onion features ‘Knives Out’ in its full title.
Despite not being a direct sequel to the 2019 hit, Glass Onion is a continuation of Knives Out, which starred Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas and Jamie Lee Curtis amongst others.
Daniel – who plays private investigator Benoit Blanc – is the only actor to reprise their role in Glass Onion, which has the subtitle A Knives Out Mystery.
Rian, who wrote, directed and co-produced both films, has now discussed how he is not a fan of the movie’s full name.
Speaking to The Atlantic, he said: ‘I’ve tried hard to make them self-contained. Honestly, I’m p**sed off that we have A Knives Out Mystery in the title. You know? I want it to just be called Glass Onion.
‘I get it, and I want everyone who liked the first movie to know this is next in the series, but also, the whole appeal to me is it’s a new novel off the shelf every time.

‘But there’s a gravity of a thousand suns toward serialized storytelling,’ he continued.
Glass Onion had a limited theatrical release before heading to Netflix – who spent a reported $469,000,000 (£388,777,550) on the rights to two Knives Out sequels – which is something else Rian isn’t entirely happy with.
‘I’d love it to be [in theaters] longer; I’d love it to be in more theaters,’ he said.

‘But also, I appreciate that Netflix has done this, because this was a huge effort on their part, and the theater chains, to reach across the aisle and make this happen.
‘I’m hoping it does really well so we can demonstrate that they can complement each other.
‘It’s not about the size of the picture, or the sound, or the sanctity of the space, or the magic of cinema, or whatever the f**k.

‘It’s about having a crowd of people around you laughing and reacting. Because these movies are engineered for that.’
In a four-star review, Metro.co.uk said: ‘A superior puzzle box to its predecessor and played more heavily for laughs, in addition to providing sharp social commentary, Glass Onion’s 140 minutes merrily zip along.

‘Daniel Craig clearly enjoys camping it up as the erratically Southern-accented Benoit Blanc, whose outrageous poolside outfit tips a wink to both Roger Moore’s 007 and Peter Ustinov’s Poirot.’
