    ### Germany Prepares for Possible War with Russia

A German general has raised the alarm about war with Russia again. Lieutenant General Gerald Funke, the head of the German armed forces support command (UstgKdoBw), expressed his concerns, stating that a Russian attack could occur within the next two to three years.

    ### Hybrid Warfare Concerns

Funke pointed out that Russian ‘hybrid warfare’ is his biggest concern along with potential casualties. “Whereas in Afghanistan I had a regrettably high but manageable number of wounded, I now have to plan for the possibility of a thousand injured personnel a day,” Funke stated. He highlighted the complexity of the situation and the rising threat level.

    ### The Mention of Hybrid Threats

“What worries me … at the moment is the hybrid side, the covert side: sabotage, sleeper cells, some kind of targeted attacks,” he added. Funke also acknowledged that he cannot rule out the use of long-range missiles, emphasizing that the hybrid threat remains very high.

    ### Increasing Defense Urgency

This warning is part of a series from top defense officials regarding mounting threats from Russia. In December, each of the 32 NATO member countries—including Britain—was urged to prepare for a war of a scale “our grandparents and great-grandparents endured.” NATO chief Mark Rutte stressed the need for allies to enhance their defense efforts to counteract potential Russian aggression.

    ### The Need for Heightened Awareness

“Too many allies do not feel the urgency of the threat in Europe,” he stated, calling for a rapid increase in defense spending and production. Rutte declared, “We are Russia’s next target. I fear that too many are quietly complacent.”

    ### Ongoing Conflict with Russia

Another expert has indicated that the United Kingdom has been in conflict with Russia “for years” but is reluctant to acknowledge it. Keir Giles, a Russia expert at Chatham House, emphasized that terms like “hybrid war” allow governments to maintain the perception that Russia is not waging an outright war.

    ### Awareness of Subsurface Conflict

Giles pointed out that there has been a “subsurface conflict” ongoing for over a decade, unnoticed by most UK citizens. Recent data shows that from August 2023 to March 2024, 46,000 flights in regions like the Baltic, Black Sea, and eastern Mediterranean reported interference issues attributed to Russian actions.
