It’s back to the silver screen for Geri Halliwell-Horner as the Spice Girls star has been cast in Sony’s upcoming Gran Turismo movie.
The 50-year-old pop icon, of course, made her big screen debut in Spice World in 1997, alongside her bandmates Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Melanie C, and Mel B.
She later made a cameo in the Sex And The City in 2004, playing socialite Phoebe.
But now she’s set to take on a very different role, starring alongside Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is already shooting in Hungary and being directed by Neill Blomkamp, known for sci-fi films including District 9 and Elysium.
The project is based on a true story and is described as the ultimate fulfilment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player, played by Archie Madekwe.

His top gaming skills won him a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race-car driver, with David Harbour playing the retired driver who teaches him to drive.
Geri and Djimon are playing the teen’s parents while Daniel Puig portrays his bother.
Other stars include Josha Stradowski as a rival driver, and Thomas Kretschmann playing his father.

Oh, but that’s not all, as completing the star-studded cast is Orlando Bloom, who’ll take on the role of a hungry marketing executive.
Spice Girl Geri shared the announcement of her casting on her Instagram page and was met with a flurry of congratulatory comments.
‘How exciting! Congratulations Geri 🤩💖’, one follower commented, with another predicting: ‘Oscar nomination coming!’
‘Wow can’t wait to see Geri on the big screen again 👏🏼’, wrote a third.

But, Spice Girls fans are also sceptical, as they wonder if Geri’s new acting role will allow time for a band reunion.
Last month, Mel C, aka Sporty Spice, assured fans of the British group that they were ‘working on’ convincing Victoria, aka Posh Spice, to join them for another outing.

Mel explained to Extra: ‘We hope – I can’t give a time frame. It is something we want to do. We are trying to push through. At the moment, Victoria is in the wings. She is always involved creatively. We want her to be happy. It is our dream to get her back.’
But, Geri is also publishing a children’s book in 2023 (she is the definition of booked and busy) so who knows when she might be able to squeeze in a reunion tour…
Sony Pictures will release their Gran Turismo movie theatrically on August 11, 2023.
