George Floyd’s family sues Kanye West for $250m 

Rosie Washington is suing Kanye West for $250m after the rapper alleged George Floyd died from drug abuse rather than being murdered by a police officer. 

Washington is the mother of George Floyd’s daughter. 

West’s latest interview on the Drink Champs podcast, saw the rapper allege that Floyd died from a fentanyl overdose. The interview has since been taken down by YouTube. It was also heavily filled with more antisemitic comments. 

George Floyd’s death

Hennepin county chief medical examiner Dr Andrew Baker testified that George Floyd’s immediate cause of death was “cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement’s subdual, restraint and neck compression.”

George Floyd died after a police officer knelt on his neck for over nine minutes. It sparked international outrage and fueled a global conversation about police brutality and racism. 

Officer Derek Chavin was found guilty on three murder and manslaughter charges and is now serving two prison sentences concurrently of more than 22 years. Three other cops were sentenced in the case, though they received lighter sentences.
