Gary Neville has hailed Erik ten Hag’s ‘reading’ of the game and says the Dutchman’s substitutions are ‘unbelievable’.
Manchester United ended their six-year trophy drought with a 2-0 victory against Newcastle United at Wembley on Sunday.
It’s the first trophy in what could be an exciting end to the season for United, who are still competing in the Premier League, the Europa League and the FA Cup.
Ten Hag has had to navigate all four competitions this season, particularly in the last two months.
With long-term injuries to Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen, United’s midfield and attack has been stretched since the turn of the year.
Ten Hag has therefore done brilliantly to keep United’s form up and Neville believes that’s in no small part down to his ‘unbelievable’ substitutions and expert reading of the game.

‘His substitutions are unbelievable by the way,’ Neville told SkySports.
‘In the last few months he hasn’t put a foot wrong. Taking Aaron Wan-Bisska off, taking Weghorst off at half-time on Thursday [against Barcelona], bringing Antony on and he scores.
‘Even in the second half here when Sabitzer and McTominay came on I thought: ‘Oh that’s a bit of a defensive move’ but even from that point Manchester United got better from an attacking sense.
‘He really reads the game well off the bench and he’s fantastic at that.’
