Gareth Southgate to announce England squad
England boss Gareth Southgate will announce his World Cup squad later today – from 14:00 BST.
Football fans in England will be watching closely today as Southgate names the 26 Lions who will be heading to Qatar for this year’s World Cup – which is only a few weeks away.
A handful of injuries has already ruled out some players, but all eyes will be on Southgate to get his team selection right – to give England the best chance in Qatar, following a disastrous Nations League campaign.
Ben Chilwell and Reece James have already been ruled out through injury, with Luke Shaw being the only recognised left-back in the England squad. But there is still Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben White, Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier amongst those who could receive a call-up – all great players who would make a huge impact.

Fans online are urging Southgate to pick James Maddison as part of the World Cup team.
Several high-profile players are almost certain to make the squad: Harry Kane, Declan Rice, Raheem Sterling, Bukayo Saka and Jordan Pickford are widely expected to make the team.
But a number of other selections appear to be less clear-cut and it remains to be seen which direction Southgate will go in as he looks to lead England to World Cup glory.
England last won the World Cup in 1966. Under Gareth Southgate, the team made it to the final of the Euros.
The Lionesses won their Euros this summer at Wembley, sparking football fever ahead of November’s world cup campaign.
