Game of Thrones writer George RR Martin has revealed we’re still a long way from the new book The Winds of Winter coming out – 500 pages away, in fact.
The most recent book A Dance with Dragons was released back in 2011, which came out six years after A Feast for Crows.
Which means we’ve been waiting for more than a decade for the latest instalment, although Martin has previously said that after The Winds of Winter, there’s another book planned too – A Dream of Spring.
But there’s still a while to go.
Speaking on Stephen Colbert’s Tooning Out The News, Martin joked about the deadline for his book being ’11 years ago.’
He added that over the 11 years, he’s managed around 1,100 pages ‘done’, before saying: ‘I need another 400/500.’

In the Comedy Central sketch, animated host Dr. Ike Bloom (voiced by Ikechukwu Ufomadu) labels Martin a ‘struggling writer’ and rings up crime author James Patterson for some advice.
Martin has previously written on his blog that being hounded by fans about his latest book was ‘wearisome’.
‘I know, for many of you out there, only one of those projects matters,’ he penned. ‘I am sorry for you. They ALL matter to me.

‘Yes, of course, I am still working on The Winds Of Winter. I have stated that a hundred times in a hundred venues, having to restate it endlessly is just wearisome.
‘I made a lot of progress on Winds in 2020, and less in 2021… but “less” is not “none”.’

Martin added: ‘The world of Westeros, the world of A Song Of Ice And Fire, is my number one priority, and will remain so until the story is told.
‘But Westeros has become bigger than The Winds Of Winter, or even A Song Of Ice And Fire.’
