Chelsea need someone like Harry Kane, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor (Picture: Getty)
Gabriel Agbonlahor has slammed ‘lightweight’ Chelsea forward Kai Havertz and has urged them to replace him with a Harry Kane or Erling Haaland clone.
Havertz has registered just six goals across 29 games for the Blues this season in what has been a poor scoring campaign for the Germany international, who has mainly operated as a centre-forward this term, especially in recent months.
The 23-year-old, who is also sometimes deployed as an attacking midfielder, has scored 29 goals and made 15 assists across 121 appearances in total since he arrived in west London from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020 in a deal worth over £70m.
Agbonlahor has been unimpressed with Havertz and feels Graham Potter’s side would benefit from playing with with an ‘out-an-out’ striker, saying someone like Tottenham’s Kane or Manchester City’s Haaland would be a better fit for Chelsea.
The Blues do have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the ranks, but he appears to be frozen out after being left out of Chelsea’s Champions League squad and despite his desire to stay and fight for his place, he has been linked with a move away.
Kane has scored 17 goals across 23 games for Spurs this season while Haaland has registered 25 in 20 for City and Agbonlahor told talkSPORT: ‘[Chelsea are] missing a ruthless striker.
‘Put Harry Kane in that team, put Haaland in that team, imagine the chances they’d score.
‘Havertz, for me, is lightweight. He’s a big lad, but gets bullied on the ball. He’s not an out-and-out number nine and is more a number 10.
‘But] they’ve got [Cristopher] Nkunku coming in the summer.’
It has been a miserable season for Chelsea, who despite spending over £600m on players since the summer, are all the way down in ninth in the Premier League table, 10 points off the top four and behind Brighton, Fulham and Brentford.
They have also crashed out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup and face a tricky test on Wednesday as they face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last 16.
