Piers Morgan is among those to have been left fuming over Matt Hancock making it to the I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here final, slamming the British public’s ‘amnesia’.
The former health minister’s appearance on the show sparked outrage, not least because he’s still a sitting MP.
However, he appears to have won at least some viewers over, as he was voted to stay over fan favourite Mike Tindall, meaning he will battle it out for the crown with Jill Scott and Owen Warner.
Piers weighed in, tweeting: ‘That Matt Hancock, who should be doing his job as an MP, may win I’m A Celebrity after his appalling handling of the pandemic & shameful sacking for breaking his own lockdown rules, is a damning indictment of the celebrification of politics & the British public’s amnesia.’
During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Hancock was pictured kissing his then-aide, Gina Coladangelo.
Shortly afterwards, Hancock resigned and split from Martha, his wife of 15 years, while Gina split from her then-partner Oliver Tress. She has since flown to Australia to support Hancock.
Hancock, who also faced tension with campmates including Chris Moyles, broke government rules to appear on the show, according to Eric Pickles, the chair of the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (Acoba).
In a letter to the chancellor of the duchy of Lancaster, Oliver Dowden, Mr Pickles wrote: ‘I am writing to you in my capacity as chair of the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments to bring to your attention a breach of the government’s business appointment rules.

‘Mr Hancock did not seek Acoba’s advice before signing up to two television series, ITV’s I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! and Channel 4’s SAS: Who Dares Wins.’
However, it was recommended that no further action should be taken.
Hancock has clearly worked hard to push for a redemption arc, saying before he arrived that he wanted people ‘to see the real me’.
‘People will see me warts and all, see the human side of the guy behind the podium,’ he said.
But not all of the campmates were convinced, as Hancock also faced clashes with the likes of Boy George, and Charlene White, with DJ Chris saying it’s ‘blowing his mind’ that the MP is still in the camp.
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here returns tonight at 9pm on ITV.
