Friends creator Marta Kauffman revealed that Matthew Perry was ‘happy and chipper’ in their last conversation before his shock death.
The actor, who starred as the beloved Chandler Bing, died at his home in California on Saturday at the age of 54.
His body was found in the hot tub at his property, with tributes pouring in around the world for the late star.
Appearing on the Today show alongside co-creator David Crane, Kauffman detailed the last time they spoke, just two weeks before he died.
‘It was great. He was happy and chipper,’ she told host Hoda Kotb in an interview that will air on Wednesday.
‘He didn’t seem weighed down by anything. He was in a really good place, which is why this seems so unfair.’

Hollywood has been reeling following the news of Perry’s death, with fans gathering outside his home and the Friends building in New York to pay their respects.
His former co-stars, Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer and Lisa Kudrow issued a heartwrenching joint statement on Monday, explaining that they were taking time to process their loss.
‘We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family,’ the message, shared via People Magazine, read.
‘There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.
‘In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.’
Several other actors who worked alongside Perry on Friends added their voices to the growing number of condolences, including Maggie Wheeler, who played Chandler’s scene-stealing on-off-again girlfriend, Janice Hosenstein.

‘I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared,’ she wrote.
Morgan Fairchild, who appeared as Chandler’s mother, Nora Bing, tweeted: ‘I’m heartbroken about the untimely death of my “son” Matthew Perry.
‘The loss of such a brilliant young actor is a shock. I’m sending love and condolences to his friends and family, especially his dad, John Bennett Perry, who I worked with on Flamingo Road and Falcon Crest.’
