TRUMP: I DO NOT SUPPORT THE ‘SEND HER BACK’ CHANT, DESPITE REMAINING SILENT DURING SPEECH
CNN follows the President’s message he disavowed the ‘send her back’ chant that broke out by his supporters during his campaign rally. The chant was aimed at Democratic congresswoman Ilhan Omar. Trump had remained silent when the chant broke out, he had previously told Omar to leave the US.
“I was not happy with it. I disagree with it. But again, I didn’t say that. They did.” Trump said the following day. He went on to explain he “felt a little bit badly” about then chant and would try to stop another chant of that type from breaking out again.
The President’s claims he is unhappy with what happened came after fellow Republicans expressed concerns, along with outrage from the Democrats. It is the latest in a series of controversies involving Trump and accusations of racism.

TALIBAN ATTACK AFGHAN POLICE HQ, 11 REPORTED DEAD
Arab News leads with the Taliban attack on police headquarters in the southern city of Kandahar. The Thursday attack killed 11 people and an estimated 80 – including women and children- have been wounded.
The attack comes at a time when Washington and the Taliban are deep in peace talks, whilst both sides claim progress is being made, violence has not reduced.
A Taliban spokesman said Thursday afternoon’s attack started with a car bomb and then gunmen stormed the police building. Of the reported eight attackers, two blew themselves up and the remaining six were said to be “cornered in a building.”

THE US SHOOTS DOWN AN IRANIAN DRONE
RT News reports President Trump confirms the US shot down an Iranian drone in the Strait of Hormuz. A US warship struck down the drone which was less than a kilometre away and ignored multiple calls to stand down.
The President said the drone was “threatening the safety of the ship and the ship’s crew,” he added that the US “reserves the right to defend our personnel, facilities and interests.”

ORGANISED CRIME ON THE RISE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA, SAYS UN
Arab News reports, the UN has found organised crime in Southeast Asia is growing in the illegal trafficking of drugs, people, wildlife and counterfeit goods. The UN report made clear corruption and easier movement of people has helped facilitate trafficking.
The UN reports more than $60 billion of methamphetamine in the Southeast Asian market this year a rapid increase from six years earlier when the figure was estimated to be $15 billion.
