I want laser hair removal, but I don’t want to pay for laser hair removal, y’know?

So after many months (actually, years) of umm-ing and ahh-ing over whether I part with £500 for a few sessions of laser on my legs, I finally caved and tried an at-home IPL device instead, which has had some users crying tears of joy at the results.

Has to be too good to be true, right? I used to be you, dear reader, but I’m now a convert. After a few months of regular use, hair be gone!

RoseSkinCo’s Lumi is my mode of hair zapping on this occasion; a handheld device that tackles the hair at the root and destroys them with light pulses. I can confirm, as per the brand prophesied, that there’s no pain, no burning and no damage to the hair. Well, apart from the whole ‘it stops hair from growing back’ thing.

We love a product that comes through for us, don’t we?

Even better, right now it’s on sale, where shoppers can get 25% off the Lumi I’ve been using (as well as 30% off all RoseSkinCo Routines/Bundles; no code needed, discount(s) will be reflected on site).

While the brand claims you can see the results after just four uses and get the full finish between 8-12 uses, I’d argue it’s taken a little more than four uses on my legs – but I’d say after a good couple of months of bi-weekly IPL action, my hair growth is massively reduced.

Now for this here review, I only used the Lumi on my right leg, leaving my left pin as a control in this follicular experiment. We always need a comparison.

My routine went something like this: I’d shave both legs, with RoseSkinCo’s 4D shaver (a mad-looking contraption that appears terrifying, but gave a more gentle shave than a regular razor, IMO) but then only used IPL on my right left.

While it took me a while to notice any difference, after letting my leg hair run wild for the past fortnight, you can now really tell a difference between the two.

Excuse the sock marks – but you can tell the difference between my right leg (on the left) and my left leg (on the right)

It’s an easy enough device to use (Picture: RoseSkinCo)

While my left leg is sporting a healthy collection of longish, dark hairs, my right one is patchy at best, with a small smattering of hairs that I reckon I can blast away with a few more sessions.

More than the hair, I’ve found since using the Lumi, I’m not sporting any ingrown hairs and I can tell a difference in the texture of my skin between the two legs, with the right softer.

The 4D shaver came in handy for prep (Picture: RoseSkinCo)

Full disclosure, I didn’t have the coarsest hairs on my legs to start with (the real test will be trying my underarms next) but I’ve read numerous reviews from happy shoppers using this on PCOS hair growth, so it seems with dedicated use the Lumi can really work wonders for a load of people wanting to ditch some hair for good.

With in-clinic laser hair removal prohibitively expensive for many, I’m getting the same sort of results I’d be after by using this device. Yes, I need to remember to do it regularly otherwise there is no point, but I’ve found it relatively easy to incorporate into my regular self-care routine and on the days I can’t be bothered, I just remember how much money I’m saving.

Just remember to wear shades while using it, because that light is bright.

    Much like my smooth-legged future.

    Yes, even I’m shocked.
