The president of ATA Extremadura, Candelaria Carrera, presented this Monday, December 30, the main results of the study “Training Needs of Self-Employed Workers in Extremadura”, a report that is part of the actions that ATA Extremadura is carrying out in the framework for the development of the project III Plan for the Improvement of Self-Employment Training.
This study, which has carried out a detailed x-ray of the group in the region, has confirmed the urgent need to advance in digital skills to ensure the competitiveness of the Extremaduran self-employed.
Self-employment represents more than 19% of total employment in the region. However, the group faces important challenges such as digitalization and the changes that the labor market is experiencing as a consequence of it.
The report shows that to work on your own, 15 skills are necessary, which are grouped into these large groups: Management tasks, organization and direction, promotion and sales, and digital skills.
Although self-employed workers in Extremadura are up to date in training to carry out their tasks within their activity or business. In fact, it has been found that self-employed workers in Extremadura are trained even more than the national average. However, there are significant gaps in digital skills, such as cybersecurity and internal digitalization processes.
ATA Extremadura has highlighted the need to promote specific training plans focused on essential digital skills, updating sectoral skills (and adapting them to the demands of each area of activity) and promoting female self-employment.
“The self-employed are a fundamental pillar of the economy of Extremadura. For this reason and to maintain their importance, it is essential that the demands of the current market, especially those of the digital field, be adapted to our group,” said the president of ATA Extremadura, Candelaria Carrera, who highlighted that it is “very important to raise awareness of the importance of adapted training.” “There are many options that digitalization offers and limiting oneself to typical courses is a mistake. We must take advantage of all available tools and provide necessary answers to workers,” he added.
In the development of the “III Plan for the Improvement of Training for Self-Employed Work”, in addition to this report that was presented today, more than 85 personalized assessments on training have been carried out, a needs self-diagnosis tool has been launched training courses already used by more than 15 self-employed workers and small businesses and the training offer of the Extremadura Public Employment Service (Sexpe) has been promoted.
Furthermore, ATA Extremadura’s commitment to working together with public administrations and the business community has been reiterated to guarantee that the group of self-employed workers continues to be an engine of growth and employment in the region.
For ATA, digitalization is key to the future of self-employment in Extremadura
