Perfect for anyone who’s held off buying a PS5 until Spider-Man 2 is out (Picture: Sony)
If you like the look of the new limited edition Spider-Man 2 PS5 but already own the console, you can buy the red and black covers separately.
While Sony does sell official PlayStation 5 covers, allowing you to change the colour of your console to something other than white, there’s not been any special themed consoles since it launched in 2020 – no doubt because of the initial stock problems.
That changes this September, though, as Sony has unveiled a themed PlayStation 5 console to tie in with Spider-Man 2, its next major exclusive out on October 20.
Announced alongside the new story trailer, this limited edition bundle also comes with a matching DualSense controller and is obviously meant to embody the colour schemes of Spider-Man and the symbiote.
It’s a pretty neat design, being mostly black aside from a patch of red to represent the corrupting influence of the symbiote; its tendrils stretching out towards the white spider logo.
This matches up with how Peter himself wears the black symbiote suit in the game which, as the first gameplay footage demonstrated, is starting to make him more aggressive and violent.
The console also comes packaged with a matching DualSense controller, with the PlayStation Blog explaining how Spider-Man 2 will make use of the controller’s features like the haptic feedback.
‘With the DualSense wireless controller, you’ll feel the action of web-swinging using the adaptive triggers, while haptic feedback provides responsive vibrations as you experience Peter Parker’s new symbiote abilities and Miles Morales’ evolved bio-electric skills,’ it reads.
In a welcome bit of news, Sony says that the Spider-Man 2 controller and the covers will all be sold separately, so current PlayStation 5 owners who are big Spidey fans don’t have to shill out for a second console.

The console can be bought on its own too, although anyone who buys the full bundle gets a digital copy of the game’s standard edition along with it.
Sony doesn’t list any prices yet, but it is likely to be a little more expensive than the standard PlayStation 5. Pre-orders will start from July 28, with a launch planned for September 1.
