Fatboy Slim – real name Norman Cook – has revealed he ‘regrets’ meeting late music icon David Bowie.
The Praise You hitmaker went into detail about his sole encounter with Bowie, who died from liver cancer in 2016 aged 69, and said their brief interaction left him ‘deflated’.
Cook made the comments after being asked whether he believed in the saying ‘you should never meet your heroes’.
Chatting to Kevin Bishop at Soho House Brighton, the DJ was asked: ‘Do you feel like you should meet your heroes?’
‘Umm. Most of them,’ Cook told Bishop, who then queried: ‘Is there anyone you think, “ugh, I wish I’d never met him”.’
According to The Argus, Cook replied: ‘Well there is one. It’s David Bowie.’

Those in attendance at the sit-down Q&A are said to have ‘gasped’, with one person asking Cook: ‘Really?’
The Bromley-born star then shared an anecdote about meeting Bowie many years ago at a private show.
Cook revealed that he’d been invited to Bowie’s exclusive gig by the Fame singer’s tour organisers and was even seated in a private box with Mick Jagger at the show.
Later that evening, Cook had the chance to get up close and personal with Bowie – who was born in Brixton, not far from Bromley – at the gig’s afterparty.
Confessing that he’d ‘had a few drinks’, doting dad Cook told the audience that he decided to approach Bowie and ask for a lighter, telling the star: ‘One Bromley boy, to another can I have a [cigarette] off you?’
The situation quickly became awkward, with Bowie simply ‘looking at Cook blankly and handing him a lighter’.
In response, Cook pointed out to Bowie: ‘I’m Fatboy Slim, by the way,’ but the best-selling artist simply replied: ‘Yeah, I know’ and carried on with his conversation. Ouch.

‘I was just deflated,’ Cook shared, making sure to also point out that Bowie was ‘perfectly civil, just unimpressed by him’.
‘Most of the people who you love are lovely really and the bigger they are the lovelier they tend to be, they don’t need to prove their ego or that they’re cleverer than you,’ he noted, adding: ‘The big ones are just really nice people.’
