Telegraph Sport – Everton back from abyss
Monday’s back pages of course lead with the final day of the 2022/23 Premier League season. Man City were crowned champions ahead of Sunday’s game so the real battle was focused towards the bottom half of the table.
Southampton were already relegated, but who would be joining them was the battle. Everton managed to cling on to their top-flight football position with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth. But Leeds (lost 4-1 to Spurs) and Leicester, who won their game over West Ham (but needed Everton to draw or lose) didn’t do enough to stay in the Premier League – they now join Southampton in being relegated to the lower league for next season.
The back page of the Telegraph leads with a large image of goalscorer Doucoure after he scored the goal. The paper notes whilst fans celebrated Doucoure, there were chants of ‘sack the board’ around the stadium at full time. A club grateful to stay in top-flight English football but also wanting real change behind the scenes of the club.
