Tottenham star Eric Dier will miss the final game of the season against Leeds United after undergoing groin surgery.
This Sunday’s clash at Elland Road will be pivotal for both ends of the table with Spurs fighting to qualify for the Europa Conference League while Leeds are trying to avoid relegation.
Tottenham are currently eighth in the table, a point behind Aston Villa, with Brentford also in contention to finish seventh.
Should they fail to leapfrog their opponents it will be the first time in 13 years that the club have failed to qualify for any kind of European football.
But Ryan Mason’s side will be without Dier after the club announced the defender had undergone groin surgery and will be out of action until the beginning of pre-season.
‘We can confirm that Eric Dier has undergone groin surgery this week and will, therefore, be unavailable for our final game of the season, away to Leeds United on Sunday afternoon.
‘The defender will commence rehabilitation with our medical staff before joining up with the squad ahead of the start of pre-season.’

The 29-year-old has been a near ever-present for Spurs this season, making 42 appearances across all competitions, though he was notably left out for the recent defeats to Villa and Brentford.
Gareth Southgate had also dropped him from his England squad from the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers, though it is not known whether this was purely injury related.

It has been a rotten campaign for the Lilywhites who are still no closer to finding a permanent replacement for sacked manager Antonio Conte, with Feyenoord’s Arne Slot the current favourite.
Having started the season as dark horses for the title, they could end it as low as ninth in the table, having won just one of their last seven games, losing five of them.
