How will Nicky react? (Picture: ITV)
The minute that nanny Nicky (Lewis Cope) walked into Home Farm on Emmerdale, Gabby (Rosie Bentham) seemed smitten by him. In upcoming episodes she has reason to celebrate when, after impressing Kim (Claire King) with her business skills, Kim offers her the job of being her deputy.
But when she chooses to celebrate with Nicky, things suddenly go badly wrong as Rosie Bentham explained to us.
‘Gabby gets the job so she is now Kim’s deputy so has an even bigger role than she’s ever had before, which comes with a lot of responsibility,’ she said.
‘And the first person she goes to, to celebrate, is Nicky. So, he cops off the shift – Thomas is asleep – and they celebrate with a bottle of fizz. I think Gabby is just really excited, she sees her life going one way – upwards.’
The chemistry certainly grows (Picture: ITV)
Carried away by the alcohol, the excitement and the moment, Gabby soon leans in for a kiss with Nicky – and is horrified by his reaction as he quickly pulls away. Awkward.
‘It leaves Gabby really confused, because there have been very clear signals from Nicky,’ Rosie told us.
‘He has been egging it on and we’ve been flirting and then she finally just goes – look, cool, this is what I’m going to do, leans in for a kiss and is rejected. Obviously, Gabby’s been rejected many times before, so she’s like – here we go again. And also, it’s someone who’s going to be around her all the time. She’s embarrassed and mortified by the whole thing. They’re also drunk, so next morning she wakes up hungover and Nicky avoids Gabby and they think – well, that’s it then, finished, done.’
Like we said, awkward. But that isn’t necessarily the end to any possibility of romance between the two, Rosie explained, and she thinks the audience will be hoping for it to happen.

‘They both fancy each other, it’s very obvious,’ she said. ‘And I think the audience are going to be egging them on to be honest, because they see two young people who fancy each other, it’s very obvious what they are going to want from that. But whether they get it or not, who knows.’
Given Gabby’s terrible record of romance, Rosie feels that Nicky could be a good match for her character.
‘She’s never really had that before – a male actually be supportive of her,’ she reflected. ‘So that’s going to make her even more head over heels. It’s going to be really good; I think the audience are going to want us to be together. It’s good vibes.’
