Former Emmerdale star Alexander Lincoln, best known as Jamie Tate, son of Home Farm matriarch Kim (Claire King), has addressed his sexuality after a fan query on Instagram.
Since his exit from the ITV soap, in a storyline that saw Jamie fake his own death, Alexander has worked on several projects, including a recent independent film titled In From the Side.
The film, written and directed by Matt Carter, is about a gay rugby club that is put in jeopardy when two of it’s players begin an affair.
Alexander plays the role of Mark, a part which garnered him a spot on the British Independent Film Awards longlist for Best Breakthrough Performance.
Taking to Instagram, Alexander labelled the nomination a ‘huge moment’ in his life.
‘Completely neglected to post this at the time but it was a HUGE moment for me and I was truly honoured to have been included for the longlist for the 2022 @bifa_film ‘Breakthrough Performance’, he wrote.

‘There were some astoundingly beautiful performances this year so I don’t feel at all bad about not getting shortlisted. Though I will of course be watching the ceremony intently from the comfort of me sofa.
‘Infinitely proud of this film and what it continues to do and how it continues to resonate with audiences.’
Alexander went on to thank the director and crew for their roles in the production.
Fans were quick to praise the film and the actor in the comments, though some were concerned about the representation of the gay athletes.
‘I loved the movie,’ one fan commented, ‘and its actors are still very handsome but I still think that the actors are posing as gay but they are not. Is it my doubt?’
The question of heterosexual actors taking on LGBTQ+ roles has been a big debate in recent years, with performers like Coronation Street’s Julie Hesmondhalgh, who played the soaps first transgender character, Hayley, acknowledging that they wouldn’t have been cast in their roles today.
Alexander replied to the comment, saying, ‘Thanks so much- really appreciate it!!!! And no, I’m not straight,’ followed by a love heart emoji.
Fans appreciated his honesty, with another replying ‘I know this may sound dumb, but thank you for saying this. I’d already read elsewhere that you’d already said it and it wasn’t exactly a secret or anything, but seeing you say it here on Instagram means a lot more than you know.’
