Al who? (Picture: ITV)
Christmas is a massively emotional one for Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) this year in Emmerdale. For one thing, it’s the first Christmas since her mum, Faith (Sally Dexter) died.
When Chas unexpectedly finds some of Faith’s possessions the memories come flooding back and she finds herself getting emotional all over again.
Chas’s grief over Faith is also compounded with guilt for not being there when her mum died. Although Faith tried to arrange her death so her children wouldn’t be present, Chas hasn’t been able to forgive herself for not being there because she was spending yet more time with her lover, Al Chapman (Michael Wildman).
So guilt is certainly adding to the emotions – guilt over Faith and guilt over her husband Paddy (Dominic Brunt).
Perhaps it’s time for a fresh start, though. Chas has been moody and snappy with Paddy ever since Al died, as she had to repress her grief for Al. Now, as she gets things ready for Christmas, she decorates the Christmas tree with her daughter Eve and starts to count her blessings.

A family dinner with Rhona (Zoe Henry) and Marlon (Mark Charnock) makes her feel more connected to Paddy and more in love with him than she’s ever been and she puts the past behind her, excited for the future for the first time in a long while.
For his part, Paddy is just glad to have the Chas he knows and loves back again and he surprises her with a gift.
It certainly seems like all is harmony and light in the Dingle/Kirk household – but could disaster be just around the corner?
Chas starts to look to the future – but is she really ready to move on?
