Jacob’s life was put in danger thanks to Leyla (Picture: ITV)
Jacob Gallagher’s (Joe-Warren Plant) life has been hanging in the balance since he was stabbed by drug-dealer Callum (Tom Ashley) in Emmerdale.
Now, as he wakes up, mum Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) is being forced to face the consequences of her actions as she was denied access to her son.
David (Matthew Wolfenden) and Leyla were horrified when they made the discovery that Jacob had been stabbed in Thursday night’s (January 5) episode.
Jacob, who had discovered Leyla with a bag of cocaine, took it upon himself to warn her drug-dealer to stay away. However, their showdown ended in disaster for Jacob, as he was left for dead on the side of the road.
Since then, Jacob has been in critical condition, having undergone surgery for the injury to his liver.
Having admitted that it was her almost-relapse that had put Jacob in this position, Leyla was ostracised by David, who told her she was to stay as far away from them as possible.
In tonight’s episode, Jacob was rushed back into theatre due to an abscess. Concerned by the severity of his condition, Eric (Chris Chittell) urged David to ring Leyla. David, however, was unrelenting.
Meanwhile, Leyla was out of her mind with worry and, after some encouragement from Suzy (Martelle Edinborough) and a text from Eric, she made her way back to the hospital, ignoring David’s previous warnings.

Following her arrival, Jacob was brought out of theatre, with the doctor hopeful about his condition.
It wasn’t long before he had woken up, much to everyone’s relief.
While the family rushed to be at his bedside, David blocked the doorway before Leyla could get in, refusing her access to her son.
Will she ever be able to make up for her mistakes, or will she be cast out of Jacob’s life forever?
