Chas isn’t welcome anymore (Pictures: ITV)
After he messed up by getting drunk on mulled wine at the carol concert in yesterday’s Emmerdale Paddy (Dominic Brunt) was feeling fragile – and a little bit apologetic – at the start of tonight’s.
He knew he’d behaved badly and left Rhona (Zoe Henry) and Marlon (Mark Charnock) to do the best they could for Eve (Bella James), which turned out to be letting her go back to Chas (Lucy Pargeter) when she got upset.
When Chas appeared, though, he told her very firmly that in the future she could only see Eve when he says so. This might sound harsh, but he pointed out that Chas had been planning to run away with Al (Michael Wildman), taking Eve with her. If that had happened he would never have seen his daughter but Chas had completely disregarded his feelings. ‘See how you like it,’ he said, spitefully.
It was Christmas Eve and Chas wanted to stay the night so she could be there in the morning when Eve woke up. It would be the first Christmas that their little girl would be old enough to fully enjoy and Chas didn’t want to miss any of it. Paddy didn’t think that was a good idea, not after he’d asked Chas to move out.
But later on Chas brought Eve’s Christmas presents round and there were a few moments when she and Paddy seemed to edge a little closer together as they laughed about their Christmas traditions.

Chas took the opportunity to ask again if she could come round the next day, nice and early before Eve was awake. Paddy’s mood hardened again as he reminded her that it was also their wedding anniversary on Christmas Day.
Once again he said that he wouldn’t have seen Eve at Christmas if she’d run off with Al. Chas started to say this wasn’t true, but Paddy shouted at her, calling her a liar.
He told her she wouldn’t be welcome in the house the next day and he had no intention of letting her see Eve.
‘We’re going to have a nice quiet Christmas,’ he told her firmly. ‘And you’re not invited.’
A happy Christmas? Oh, no.
