Benn hopes to clear his name as soon as possible (Picture: Getty)
Eddie Hearn ‘loves’ the idea of Conor Benn fighting Gervonta Davis down the line.
Benn and Davis exchanged words on social media over the festive period with both fighters recently in the headlines for the wrong reasons.
Benn still waiting to learn his fate following failed drug tests in the lead-up to his meeting with Chris Eubank Jr in October while Davis was arrested in December on a domestic violence charge, having since been released.
The British fighter sparked the recent war of words with Davis, responding to a previous dig by advising the American to ‘not throw stones if you live in a glass house.’ Davis responded by telling Benn to ‘get off them drugs.’
Benn has maintained his innocence ever since his fight with Eubank Jr was called off just 48 hours before the opening bell.
The 26-year-old relinquished his British boxing licence in October and was also removed from the fifth place he held in the WBC’s welterweight rankings.
The sanctioning body’s Clean Boxing Programme opened an investigation in the aftermath, with WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman claiming a decision would be announced before the end of December with Benn eager for the matter to be resolved.

Hearn is adamant Benn will return to the ring in early or mid-2023 with the fighter eager to clear his name before continuing with his career.
While Benn fights at welterweight, Davis has fought as heavy as super-lightweight with Hearn excited by the recent spat between the two.
‘Conor Benn has not really performed at that elite world level yet, but I believe he is an elite welterweight. I love the fight, I love the fight between Conor Benn and Gervonta Davis. Why not?’ Hearn told the DAZN Boxing Show.

‘Gervonta has boxed at lightweight, I’m sure he doesn’t mind fighting up at 147 or close to. Conor Benn is going to return in early 2023 or mid-2023, that is a fact.
‘Conor is very frustrated right now. But he has submitted all the evidence he needs to clear his name.
‘Now we are wating on Vada and the WBC to make their decision. We want that decision as soon as possible. But the fact is Conor Benn can fight not anywhere in the world but in most places in the world right now, he is not banned by anyone. But we want the hearing, we want to go through these processes.
‘He can either clear his name, he can receive a ban which I do not think will be the case and he can progress with his career. He can progress with his career now but we want his case to be heard otherwise people just won’t accept that. That is why you see the social media activity from Conor.’
Hearn suggested he would like to resurrect the Eubank Jr fight, with the Brighton fighter in action against Liam Smith in January. But he suggests the Davis fight could be looked at in the future, with ‘Tank’s immediate focus on Hector Garcia this weekend and a colossal meeting with Ryan Garcia in the spring.
‘I think the Chris Eubank fight is one of the biggest fights in boxing but Gervonta Davis is another huge fight,’ Hearn said. ‘I had never even thought about that fight. But you see the backwards and forwards between them and you think yeah, there would be fireworks.’
