Ed Sheeran just got pretty mushy about his friend Harry Styles, who he has known since their teenage years.
The Shape Of You singer, 32, has gone into detail about he and the 29-year-old As It Was hitmaker’s friendship, and it’s seriously cute.
Chatting about some of his most meaningful relationships, Ed also nodded to his good friend Taylor Swift.
Talking about both of them, Ed confessed that as solo artists operating with a certain level of fame and success, they have an ‘understanding’ of each other which is rare to come by.
Chatting on Spout Podcast, Ed was asked about matching tattoos of penguins he and the former One Direction singer got back in the day.
Asked whether they still have them, Ed responded that he thought Harry did, but they’ve both grown up since.

‘I think we’ve both slowed down a bit with tattoos. I think when you’re in your early 20s it’s just like, “Let’s get loads,” but I’m pretty sure he’s slowed down and I’ve definitely slowed down a lot,’ he explained.
Highlighting their shared history, Ed revealed he’s known Harry since they were 19 and 16, and they were in the same house when they heard – coincidentally on the same day – that One Direction’s What Makes You Beautiful and Ed’s album, ‘+’, had both made number one.
‘I’ve known Harry since I was 19 and he was 16 so there’s something about going through your formative years [with someone],’ he began.

‘He’s obviously on top of the world right now and has gone from being in one of the biggest boybands to being the biggest solo artist in the world, and it’s an amazing journey to see and I’m super, super proud of him.’
Awh, Ed.
The Lego House hitmaker also explained how he’s got a similar sentimentality towards Shake It Off megastar Taylor.
‘It’s the same thing as Taylor,’ he began, ‘there’s rarely people that totally understand you and because they’re both solo artists at a level you kind of talk and there’s an understanding there you don’t necessarily get from everyone.’
This comes as Ed has endured quite the month, as he won his eight-year copyright battle after the family of Marvin Gaye accused Ed of copying parts of Let’s Get It On.

Ed also recently released his new film, The Sum of it All, which documented his year of tragedy in 2022, in which his best friend Jamal Edwards died and his wife Cherry Seaborn was diagnosed with cancer while pregnant.
His latest album, Subtract (-), is out now.
