Alfie Moon is set to make another attempt to win back Kat Slater in EastEnders this festive season.
The former market trader, who returned to the Square in September, has struggled to let go of the thought of a future with soulmate Kat.
Kat, however, has stated time and again that Phil Mitchell is the man for her, but despite such claims, its clear that she’s still holding a torch for her ex.
But is there a future for the once-happy couple?
“The way I see it is: Alfie and Kat will always be the love of each other’s lives,’ EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw told Inside Soap, ‘but they’re in a position now where she’s fallen in love with Phil, and they make a brilliant couple.
‘Phil is a very different man now that he has Kat in his life, and she brings out a different side to him.
‘Deep down, Kat will always love Alfie – but there’s so much dirty water under that bridge and, no matter how much she loves him, I don’t think she can go back there at the moment.’

Alfie, however, wont give up on the possibility of rekindling things with Kat, and Chris added that we’ll see him set out with a new plan to win her back at Christmas.
‘All I’ll say is, we’re shooting something for Christmas,’ he teased, ‘which is very funny and sees Alfie trying his best to win Kat back and make his kids happy – but will he succeed?’
Consider us intrigued.
Shane Richie, who plays Alfie, recently discussed fans’ reaction to Alfie’s return and the fact that they are keen for him to reunite with Kat.
‘They say to me, “We can’t wait to see Kat and Alfie together,” and I keep saying, “Well, it may not happen”! Everyone wants to believe there’s a happy ending somewhere.

‘Everyone loves a happy ending and there may well be but at the moment, there isn’t. Kat and Phil are an item, and Alfie’s just a fly in the ointment getting in the way.’
Discussing Kat and Phil’s shock romance, Shane said that the two characters are ‘broken’ and that they’ve ‘found each other’, but was quick to state that they don’t have ‘history’.
EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
