A cyclist has shared footage of the terrifying moment a driver mounted a busy two-way cycle lane during rush hour and sped towards oncoming cyclists.
The hatchback was seen turning off a busy junction in central London heading into the bicycle-only lane which was separated from the motorists’ lane by a curbed central reservation.
It continued travelling at speed down the cycle lane, forcing cyclists to swerve into the road to avoid a collision.
Filming the car from behind on his headcam, the cyclist who shared the footage could be heard repeatedly trying to warn the driver.
After shouting ‘oi’ and repeatedly ringing his bell a few metres behind and having no luck, he resorted to shouting: ‘Get out of the f***ing road!’.
But the driver is seen failing to slow down despite coming face-to-face with numerous cyclists and only leaves the lane when it gives out directly onto a motorists’ lane.
The cyclist who shared the footage said: ‘I was cycling home from work, it’d be about a 20-minute ride, when I noticed the driver enter the cycle lane.
‘While it did look like an accident, the driver took quite a long time to leave, despite several dropped curbs along the way.
‘I was worried more for cyclists coming in other direction than my own safety as it’s a bidirectional cycle lane, and I was very worried when cyclists had to take evasive action.
‘From what others have said since posting it’s a regular occurrence on this section.’
It could not immediately be confirmed whether the incident was reported to police.
