Dragon Age: Dreadwolf – maybe don’t expect it to be out this year (pic: EA)
In lieu of any official details, an anonymous leaker has shared screenshots and gameplay footage from Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s alpha.
Although BioWare has frequently assured fans that development on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is progressing well, it has offered very little evidence of this.
It did share some brief glimpses of gameplay back in 2020, but said gameplay was obviously unfinished and it was too early to make any sort of judgement.
Over the weekend, though, someone claiming to have seen gameplay from an alpha test not only shared supposed details but also screenshots and footage.
The footage is only eight seconds long but provides fans their first real look at how combat in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf works, with a knight character dodging enemy attacks, blocking with their shield, and swinging a sword.
With surprising athleticism for someone decked in armour, they perform a dropkick against one enemy, presumably a special ability they have equipped in an ability wheel spotted in the lower left corner.
While it fundamentally doesn’t seem that different to its predecessor and retains a third person perspective, the camera is noticeably much closer to the player character and positioned over the shoulder, which comes across as quite similar to the modern God Of War games.
Apparently, this is intentional as the leaker, Reddit user revanchisto, says that the combat is obviously inspired by God Of War.

While the leak also shows party members accompanying the player, revanchisto adds that there was no option to directly control them in the alpha and they suspect this will be the case for the full game. Instead, you’ll be able to issue orders, but this feature was locked off in the alpha.
They shared all their findings via the Dragon Age subreddit, although they’ve since removed the footage and screenshots. While it sounds like they had a lot of gameplay they could have shared, they’ve refused to upload any more since they received it from a playtester who told them not to share all of it.
We obviously can’t share any of the leak ourselves, but you should be able to find it fairly easily.

This leak comes after an Insider Gaming report claimed a couple of similar details, namely the hack ‘n’ slash combat and lack of party control. It also corroborated the leaked footage as authentic.
Insider Gaming adds that, according to its sources, traces of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s origins as a multiplayer game can still be found, such as a Destiny-like central hub area that connects to different missions.
Insider Gaming’s sources say that a 2023 release seems optimistic, since the game still lacks a lot of features as well as character dialogue – meaning fans may not see it launch until 2024 at the earliest.
