Donald Trump says Colorado ballot ban could unleash ‘chaos’
Donald Trump is calling on the US Supreme Court to quickly end his exclusion from Colorado’s presidential primary ballot. In a recent court filing, he warned of potential chaos if other states followed Colorado’s lead and barred him from primaries. The move comes after Colorado’s highest court banned Trump in December, accusing him of incitement during the January 6 2021 Capitol riot. A similar ruling in Maine was temporarily halted by state judges on Wednesday.
Trump’s legal team argues that the 14th Amendment, which prohibits those who have engaged in insurrection from holding federal office, doesn’t apply to the presidency. They claim that the office is not specifically mentioned in the amendment.
