Former President Donald Trump is reportedly pushing for his Facebook account to be unblocked and preparing his first tweet after being reinstated on Twitter.
The Trump campaign is petitioning Meta, the parent company of Facebook, to let the ex-president access his accounts two years after suspending him for his posts on the January 6 Capitol riot.
‘We believe that the ban on President Trump’s account on Facebook has dramatically distorted and inhibited the public discourse,’ the Trump campaign wrote in a letter to Meta on Tuesday, a copy of which was obtained by NBC News.
The Trump campaign brought up free speech and asked Meta for a ‘meeting to discuss President Trump’s prompt reinstatement on the platform’.

A Meta spokesperson told the news outlet only that it ‘will announce a decision in the coming weeks in line with the process we laid out’.
Trump, who announced his 2024 campaign for president in November, has not threatened to sue Meta to recover his accounts.
Facebook and Twitter banned Trump from their platforms the day after he held a rally and riled up his supporters. Trump’s fans stormed the Capitol building to try to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s victory and it turned into a deadly insurrection.
At the time, Facebook suspended Trump’s account and said it would review it after two years, beginning on January 7 this year.

Meanwhile, Twitter under new owner Elon Musk reinstated Trump’s account on November 19.
‘Trump is probably coming back to Twitter. It’s just a question of how and when,’ an anonymous Republican told NBC News. ‘He’s been talking about it for weeks, but Trump speaks for Trump, so it’s anyone’s guess what he’ll do or say or when.’
The former president has been voicing out on his Truth Social platform. However, he only has 4.8million followers on it, compared to 34million on Facebook and 88million on Twitter.
