Dominic Raab to stand down as MP at next election
Dominic Raab, former deputy PM, has announced he will not seek re-election as an MP in the upcoming election. The decision comes a month after he resigned as a minister following a bullying inquiry which found that he had acted in an “intimidating” manner towards officials.
According to the Telegraph, Raab expressed concerns about the impact the job was having on his young family as reason for not seeking re-election.
Raab has been MP for Esher and Walton since 2010, winning a majority of 2,743 votes in 2019. His departure from Parliament means that the Conservative Party will need to find a new candidate for this Surrey constituency, which is a significant target for the Liberal Democrats in the next election, expected in 2024.
Since entering Parliament in 2010, Raab has held various ministerial positions. He now joins a growing list of senior Tories who have decided not to run in the next general election.
