Dimitri van den Bergh defends ‘incredibly slow’ play in UK Open title win
Dimitri van den Bergh was slow and steady on his way to the UK Open title, but has no plans on speeding up his play after work with a sports psychologist led him to the huge win.
The Belgian didn’t often hit the heights in terms of averages on his way to lifting the trophy, but his opponents also struggled to find their best form.
That was the case in the final as Van den Bergh downed world champion Luke Humphries 11-10 in a thriller, even if it wasn’t played at the most spritely pace, with Cool Hand dramatically missing two championship darts.
The Minehead crowd became a bit sick of the Dream-maker’s sluggish speed on Sunday, giving him some stick as he took a long pause before starting the 19th leg, but he doesn’t care, happy to stick with what is working for him.
