‘Deranged and a lie’: Boris Johnson lashes out at damning Partygate report
The Metro says Boris Johnson claimed the Privileges Committee’s report was designed to be ‘the final knife thrust’ in his ‘political assassination’.
After a 14-month investigation, the committee found he ‘deliberately misled’ Parliament with his Partygate denials and recommended a huge 90-day suspension.
In a furious 1,700-word rebuttal, Mr Johnson dismissed its findings as ‘deranged’ and ‘a load of complete tripe’, calling the Tory-majority group of MPs led by Labour’s Harriet Harman ‘beneath contempt’.
He said: ‘The committee now says that I deliberately misled the House, and at the moment I spoke I was consciously concealing from the House my knowledge of illicit events. This is rubbish. It is a lie.
