Loose Women’s Denise Welch didn’t mince her words over Matt Hancock’s upcoming stint on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!.
On Tuesday, it was announced that the former health secretary had signed up for the ITV programme, with the MP subsequently suspended from the Conservative Party as a result.
It’s reported that the politician will be featuring the show as a late arrival alongside comedian Seann Walsh, joining fellow members of the cast including royal Mike Tindall, singer Boy George, Love Island star Olivia Attwood and radio DJ Chris Moyles.
During Wednesday’s Loose Women, presenters Paris Fury, Jane Moore and Linda Robson discussed the recent announcement, which led Denise to express her passionate views over the surprising addition.
‘I am fuming, which wouldn’t surprise anybody,’ she began.
‘I am fuming and I am disgusted, and I cannot find any humour in this appointment at all.

‘As far as I’m concerned, we are still suffering the repercussions of what happened over the last few years.’
Reflecting on her personal experience, she continued: ‘And I was very vocal about Covid restrictions, some being incredibly unnecessary and the impact that would have on people’s livelihoods and mental health, and Matt Hancock was at the forefront of those.’
Mr Hancock was England’s health secretary at the time leaked CCTV showed him kissing aide Gina Coladangelo in breach of the social distancing guidelines he helped create.

Addressing the scandal, Denise added that while the nation were not allowed to be in close proximity of family members and friends, Denise expressed that she still ‘lives with the pain everyday’ of not seeing her dad during lockdown.
She added: ‘Remember it was illegal to get in your car and go and visit a loved one, even when we had the vaccines to free us, we had tests, so we could say “I could do a test before I visit my dad who was lonely in his house.’

Turning her rage to Mr Hancock, she seethed: ‘While he was having an affair with some woman in the broom closet or whatever he was, while the government from day one of this were carrying on in Downing Street.’
As Jane tried to calm Denise down, she concluded her rant saying: ‘Matt Hancock was at the forefront of this, he is not a celebrity.’
During his time on the show, Mr Hancock will have special permission to communicate with staff if there’s a constituency emergency in his West Suffolk patch, reports Birmingham Live.
