Rosie Jones has kept us all in hysterics through her appearances on the likes of QI, Hypothetical, The Last Leg, and 8 Out of 10 Cats.

The comedian and actress, who is raising awareness of cerebral palsy in an upcoming Channel 4 documentary about ableism and abuse, has previously told Metro.co.uk about how comedy can change the world.

The 32-year-old told us: ‘I think we can change the world through comedy, and I think the most intellectual people in the world are comedians.

‘For me, being gay and having a disability, I really want to represent my people and represent diversity through comedy.’

But while she keeps viewers and fans in hysterics with her shows, she also has the answer to what happens when you don’t find your partner funny, despite everything else going well.

For Pride Month, Metro’s first Agony Aunt Rosie came to the rescue.

Hi Rosie, I recently got into my first relationship since coming out to my family and while it’s been going really well – the sex is great, he’s so lovely and we have so much fun together there’s just one problem: I don’t find him funny at all and he makes jokes all the time. A part of me thinks I’m still getting used to being out and looking for ways to sabotage it all (which I have been prone to do) but should I just focus on the positives and pretend he makes me laugh. Can you help?

    Pride Month 2023

Pride Month is here, with members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies celebrating their identities, accomplishments, and reflecting on the struggle for equality throughout June.

This year, Metro.co.uk is exploring the theme of family, and what it means to the LGBTQ+ community.

That’s a good question… I think what it all comes down to is how much you value a good sense of humour.

For me, a good sense of humour is needed; I could not even imagine dating a girl who isn’t open to a ‘lol’ or two. But there are two types of people in the world, there are people you just won’t find funny and it sounds like you really value humour.

I wouldn’t end the relationship yet, but at the very least have a conversation with him and it might be awkward but maybe approach the subject of not finding him funny and maybe you two having very different senses of humour.

You sound very eloquent and you know what you want, and right now, you deserve a great boyfriend, great sex, AND a great sense of humour so don’t right him off just yet. Start with a conversation but consider how much you value humour in your relationship with him, and relationships going forward.

Congratulations on your first gay relationship, I really hope it works out – ‘lols’ or no ‘lols’.

But, if it doesn’t work out, I am confident that you will find many more equally brilliant (and funny) boyfriends.

I highly relate to the self-sabotage concern as well, and sometimes when you’re first coming out and getting comfortable in your own sexuality you look for ways to escape how you’re feeling. Don’t be negative about yourself, and I think the very fact that you are aware that you may be self-sabotaging is amazing.

Coming out is such a long process, and it happens at different speeds for everybody, so, please don’t feel guilty if you are still looking for ways to escape this new relationship.

    Love, Rosie
